Are You to Old to Get Your Nose Peirced? Here is Some Advice

OK, I will blame it on my foster sister, It was her fault because she agreed do go along with me and get her nosed pierced.  So after thinking about piercing my nose for years, I finally did it!

You might be saying to yourself, what is a grandmother doing piercing her nose? Your to old for that....
You are only as old as you feel, and I don't feel nearly as old as I am.

I decided not to mention my nose piercing to most of my friends and co workers. I was quite disappointed in the reaction when they saw it. This is what they said, Did you get your nose pierced? yes, I thought you always had your nose pierced and I just had not noticed before, it looks good.

Dang it!!! No shock and awe.

Here is some advice if you are thinking of getting your nose pierced and you are a middle aged or older woman.
  1. Do not watch youtube videos about botched nose piercing before you go.
  2. Do not go to the mall and get your nose pierced with an inexperienced teenager and a piercing gun.
  3. Find one of your friends who has adult children with multiple peircing's and ask where they go to get pierced.
  4. Make sure the post is" implant grade" surgical steel.
  5. Take a friend or a loved one for moral support. Not only that, it can be kind of scary going into a tattoo/piercing parlor alone.
  6. Once your nose is pierced DO NOT use anything to clean it except Dial soap or saline solution rinse (That is what the piercer told me.)
  7. Make sure the "parlor" is clean and tidy and all the equipment is clean, new and/ or autoclaved
  8. Make sure the piercer wears disposable gloves.
  9. Decide before you go if you want the right side or left side pierced.
  10. Some say to get your nose pierced on the opposite side of the part in your hair.
  11. If you are squeamish, do not watch someone else get their nose pierced.
  12. Buy a few boxes of circle band-aides. Put a circle band aid on your nose ring before you go to bed, so you don't accidentally scratch your nose at night.  I put a new one on in the morning before applying make up.
  13. It is important that you clean your new piercing after showering.  My piercer said that hair conditioner tends to build up on the post.
  14. Resist temptation! Do NOT FUSS with your new nose ring while it is healing!
Q & A
  • How much does it cost? In my foster sisters city it cost  $50.00 + a tip. That included your choice of L shaped noise ring with a cubic zirconia.  They had many colors to choose from.
  • How do they pierce your nose? This was my experience, with a jumbo embroidery needle (hehe.) First he cleaned my nose with rubbing alcohol. next he stuck a hard plastic clear tube up my nose and push the embroidery needle through the side of my nostril (the needle came out the bottom of the tube) at the same time putting the post in. He was quick!
  • Why do the piercers ware a plastic apron? Sorry this is gross... Because some people are "squirter's"- they squirt blood when their nose is getting pierced. Thankfully neither me, or my foster sister were "squirter's"
  • Does it hurt? On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being excruciating pain, I would say 1.5, my foster sister may say 2.5, she is more sensitive than I am. It was a little tender for a few days.
  • Can you still blow your nose/sneeze? yes.
  • What shape is the nose ring post? Mine is L shaped.
Therefore, if you are over 40 years old and wanting to get your nosed pierced I say GO FOR IT!

Question of the Day

A few weeks ago a dear friend went to a how to build your relationship with your spouse workshop. One of the exercises intrigued me. The group had to go to an unfamiliar restaurant and order off the menu for their spouse. NO TALKING or giving hints. She was shocked to see many people could not order for their spouse. Some had been married 25 years or more.

I love this exercise. I have been ordering for my gig a low for many years. That is easy, could he order for me? Yes. But he would be worried that he is not getting it right. He knows the things I will not eat. Ox tail for one.

This carries over to could I have a birthday party for my dear friends and get it right? I think so.

Daliah - I would call it "Downton Abbey".  There would be a dress code men in ties women in dresses. Fine china, silver and cloth napkins. We would have H'orderves served on a sliver platter. There would be wine, champaign  cheese and chocolate. The house would have beautiful roses and flower throughout.  All her family and her close friends would be there.  She would also like to have a private family party where they all go to an exotic location together and just have family time.  Gifts, yes.

Jasmin - All American - Hamburgers, French fries and a movie with close friends, separate party with family. Gift of time is the biggest gift for Jasmin. Sometimes she would not like to have a party at all.

Fuchsia - City Girl - Nothing is better than being in the big city with friends and her daughter.  I would call it a Progressive City dinner. Walk or drive all over the city eat at several different types of foodie type spots. She wants to share her experience and make a foodie memory. Gifts yes

Elijah - Traditional - Meat & potatoes, cake or cupcakes, blow out the candles. Maybe go to movies or play bocce ball. Sometime Elijah would rather not have a party at all. Gifts yes.

Could you order off the menu for your spouse or loved one? Could you plan a party for your close friends and know what they want?

I hope my friends who read this will tell me if I am accurate. How well do I know my friends? I will find out!

Dead Man In the Parking Lot

The other day I was coming out of a restaurant, it was lunch time.  I noticed a small commotion in the parking lot, as I got closer I saw a man on the ground who appeared to be dead, another man on top of him was giving him chest compressions. One big haired lady was on the phone talking to 911, another lady was standing there. I said I know CPR can I help? The big haired lady on the phone said NO mouth to Mouth, just compressions. What? Is he breathing? NO. 911 is saying you don't need to do mouth to mouth anymore. Ok. I said Sir do you want me to help with chest compressions? No reply from the man working so hard to save a strangers life.

So I just stood there. I did not know what to do. Every once in a while the dead man would gurgle. I thought to myself, death rattle. His lips were turning blue. His eyes were fixated. Poor soul. The other lady who was standing next to me said there was a woman with a green shirt on with the dead man, she was screaming DON'T TOUCH HIM. She had disappeared.

Knowing how exuberant I am when I do chest compressions, I would break his ribs. I have been told by many instructors I am a rib breaker. It made me second guess if I wanted to jump in and help. All I could think about was lawsuits (from the green shirt lady)  I did nothing  to help. How utterly disgusting is that?

Just about that time a young 20 something lady was briskly walking by, she looks down and screams THATS MY DAD! THATS MY DAD, we were suppose to meet here for lunch! She bends down and and screams for her dad to "come back. " I felt really bad for 20 something. Her dad was dead. Soon after another young woman with a little baby shows up. Apparently she was a sister to 20 something.  Sister with a baby was waiting inside, her dad had called to say he was in the parking lot. When he did not come in she came out and found us. Then both sisters started screaming and hitting there dad trying to get him to "wake up for the baby" The man was still doing chest compressions and the big haired lady was on the phone with 911

I just stood there thinking how very sad this is. I wondered if the man was saved? He had no idea he was going to die that day in the parking lot, all he knew was he was going to have lunch with his two daughters and grandchild.

The dead man gurgled again. That made both the daughters think he was breathing. The man duing chest compressions stopped, looked and listened. Nothing, he resumed chest compressions.

What was taking the ambulance so long?

Finally after what seemed like an eternity the firefighters and ambulance showed up. It seemed as though they were in slow motions, jaded, another dead guy to deal with. We all backed away and watched as the first responders as they started ventilating the man, cut his shirt off and gave him electrical shocks.

When the dead man would jump because of the shocks the daughters thought it was a good sign. I could see his spirit was gone. The first responders could see it as well I am sure. They tried to revive the dead man for a long time with no avail. They loaded the dead man into the ambulance and told the sisters they were going to the hospital down the street.

I asked the sisters if I could drive them to the hospital? no thank you. They said we will be ok.  The sister with the baby was on the phone. I could overhear her telling someone that her dad was "unconscious." Just about that time the lady with the green shirt showed up again. She started talking to the sister with the baby. I walked over to 20 something and said I would pray for her and her family. She plainly said Thank you. This lead me to believe she was not a Christian. The ambulance and the sisters went to the hospital

The next thing I know I am in a group hug with the man doing chest compressions and the lady who was standing next to me. The man doing chest compression was out of breath and was shaking. He said I hope the man lives, but I don't think he will. I told the man that gave chest compressions he gave it a vaunt effort. We held on to each other for a long time. Then we all went our separate ways.

I hope and pray and believe that God can turn all bad things to good some how. This was also a good reminder to spread the Gospel as we never know what is going to happen on our way to lunch.
